JOÃO SODRÉ
Translated by John
D. Godinho João
Sodré saw the light of day for the first time on March 3, 1961, in Lourenço
Marques, now Maputo, in Mozambique (other sources reveal a different
date). He has lived in Mozambique, Angola, Brazil, Portugal and Belgium
and traveled to a number of other countries and continents. His childhood
and adolescence were happy ones and he learned to dedicate himself to the
search for information and culture, in the sciences, arts and philosophy,
while keeping in good physical shape, all of which brought him some
academic credits as well as some recognition from his peers.
As a result, he holds a degree in film editing and sound from the
Escola Superior de Cinema (where he was president of the Student Body
Association). In addition, he
took advanced courses in the English and French languages as well as minor
courses to improve his knowledge of cinema, video and business
administration. In the meantime, he developed a reputation as a "computer
specialist," even though he is totally self-taught on the subject. At
present, he is Publicity Editor (commonly known as copy writer).
His career as a film, TV and video director, which he exercised
until 1998, is now on a standby basis: a full feature non-fiction movie (Alma
Ta Fika), dozens of episodes and skits for TV (fiction and
entertainment programs) and several videos that he also produced, edited
and in which he participated in the composition of the soundtrack. Before
and during his activities as Director, he acted in several other areas:
maketing surveyor, seasonal farm worker, freelance journalist (for
daily newspapers, weeklies, cultural and ecological publications), agent
for musical groups and promoter of shows, primary school teacher, editor
of a publication on finance and economics for private enterprise,
construction worker, radio announcer, freelance copywriter,
experimentalist musician. In
the area of audio- visuals, he also taught directing, production and
script writing in several schools and workshops; he was an actor, reporter,
production director, as well as assistant
director, film editor, critic and scriptwriter.
In
addition to several scripts written for himself and for others, he has had
some short stories and poems published and has many other works of fiction
ready for publication. He was
one of the authors of 80
Lives that Death Cannot Snuff Out (11 biographies). In
spite of all these activities, he managed to father a son – and remain a
bachelor. He has not given up
on the idea of finding (again) his soul mate.
In the meantime, the show must go on... On
this site, he is the author of the following biographies: |
